Project purpose

The project goal is to achieve sustainable multiple-use water services through installation of new water points and upgrading of existing water points by trained private sector entrepreneurs.

Description of the project

In this project SHIPO tries to create awareness under the communities of the advantage of and possibilities for multiple uses of water through sensitization meetings and working together with coaches.
In every ward, two coaches are working together with SHIPO to get requests for new rope pumps with potential for multiple-use, but also for existing water points which can be upgraded for multiple use.
The coaches will train the communities through fact sheets to create awareness under the people living in the three wards. Subjects are for example drip irrigation systems, water recharge systems, use of vertiva grass and hygiene and sanitation.
Through a training by Winrock local SHIPO trained drillers and pump manufacturers get the opportunity to follow a Business Development Services training.


Project progress

The project started in August 2011. After introduction of the program at ward level, every ward showed their interest and wants to work together with SHIPO to obtain the goals of the project.
